What to ask each one
Where does the pyebaek set come from?
Many pyebaek tables are set with the family's own pieces and a grandmother's recipe for the foods. The cup the couple offer is wine — cheongju — by the rite; some families pour tea instead, as a Korean tea ceremony.
Where do the hanbok come from?
Rental sets ship the pyebaek pieces — a hwarot or wonsam with the jokduri for the bride, the samogwandae for the groom — and a family's own hanbok serve as well.
Who prepares the pyebaek foods?
By custom the foods are the bride's family's — the jujube tower, chestnuts, yukpo or a whole pyebaek chicken, gujeolpan, and the wine. The dates and chestnuts do double duty: table display first, then the toss by the groom's parents, which the couple catch in the bride's skirt or a cloth held between them.
